Trichomoniasis

About Our Trichomoniasis Test

We use a lab-certified urine test to detect Trichomonas, the parasite that causes trichomoniasis, one of the most common and treatable sexually transmitted infections.

This screening looks for the presence of the parasite's DNA in a small urine sample. No swabs or physical exams are needed, and results are generally available within 1-2 days.

More Information About Our Trichomoniasis Urine Test

Do you use blood or urine to test for trichomoniasis?

We use a urine test to screen for Trichomonas vaginalis, the parasite that causes trichomoniasis. This method is simple, accurate, and noninvasive, no blood draw, swabbing, or undressing is required. You'll just provide a small urine sample for lab analysis.
How do I read my trichomoniasis test results?
Your results will clearly indicate whether Trichomonas vaginalis was detected or not detected. A "detected" result means an active infection is present and treatment is needed. A "not detected" result means no trichomonas DNA was found in your sample.

Is there a trichomoniasis cure?

Yes. Trichomoniasis is easily curable with prescription antibiotics. If you test positive, you are eligible for a consultation with one of our clinicians; and if need be, antibiotics can be prescribed for you.

When should I test for trichomoniasis?

Anyone who is sexually active can get trichomoniasis, but testing is especially important for women, individuals with new or multiple partners, and those with a history of other STIs. Regular testing helps ensure early detection and treatment, even if you don't have symptoms.

How do I prepare for a trichomoniasis urine test?

You must avoid urinating for at least one hour before your test. Female test takers are encouraged to avoid cleansing the labial area before providing a sample. No fasting is required. No other preparation is necessary.

When is the Right Time to Test For Trichomoniasis?

The right time to test for trichomoniasis depends on exposure, symptoms, and sexual activity. If you've had unprotected sex or suspect exposure, test within 1-4 weeks as testing too early can cause false negatives.

If symptoms like itching, discharge, or burning occur, test immediately. Even if they fade, trichomoniasis can persist silently. Include testing in routine STI screenings, especially for sexually active women. If your partner tests positive, both of you should be tested and treated together to prevent reinfection.

If you are not aware of your sexual status regarding any STDs including gonorrhea, syphilis, HIV-1, HIV-2, Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, HSV-1, or HSV-2, or Mycoplasma genitalium, then our doctors strongly recommend the 13 Test Panel, which tests for the most common STDs.
